Lifestyle & Personal Decisions

Will I regret getting SMP?

No one can reliably predict whether you will regret SMP. Satisfaction depends on personal expectations, the appearance you want, and your willingness to accept a long-lasting cosmetic tattoo. Pigment is difficult to remove, and correction or removal may be incomplete. Take time to understand the proposed design and its limitations before booking. If you feel pressured, expect actual regrowth, or remain unsure about the planned appearance, postponing is more appropriate than relying on reassurance that everyone is satisfied.

What You Should Know

  • A personal decision cannot be reduced to a universal satisfaction prediction.
  • Correction research describes selected patients, not the likelihood that you will regret treatment.
  • Uncertainty about the design is a reason to pause before pigment is implanted.

When to Seek Professional Advice

Write down what would make the result acceptable and what would disappoint you. Discuss both lists during consultation, and delay treatment if the proposed plan does not resolve your central concerns.

Evidence & Sources

  1. FDA — Tattoos & Permanent Makeup Fact Sheet

General tattoo safety and pigment guidance; not SMP-specific risk rates.

  2. Park et al. — Revision for Unsatisfactory Outcomes of Scalp Micropigmentation

Selected retrospective revision-patient sample; cannot establish general SMP failure rates.
